Should I repair my car before selling it?

Should you sell the car or fix it?

It’s difficult to sell a car without any maintenance records, so do you want your potential buyers driving away with the feeling that they just purchased an expensive lemon?

Before you embark on the journey of spending your hard-earned money on repairing the car you are about to sell, you should have answers to the following questions:

Should I repair my car before selling it for cash or trade-in value?

The answer might depend on how much time and money would be required to fix up all of its problems.

If too many repairs are needed, there is no point in going through the trouble as most people will shy away from buying something broken, let alone fixing what needs attention themselves!

Selling a car needs a lot of quality preparation.

Obviously, you want to make sure you have an alternate car unless you don’t plan to use another car yet. You need to decide whether to sell it yourself or ask a car dealer to sell it for you.

And you need to classify your car to make sure you get a favourable price for selling it. Still, before you do any of this, you must make sure your car is in the good and right condition to sell. If your car has body damage like dent or rust, it will make more sense to invest a little cash in repairs to help sell it.

PS: If you have damage insurance cover for your car, you should go and fix it now!!

Take care of the things that can be easily fixed!

When people come to take a look at your car, the first things they are most likely to check are your tires, the brake lights and headlights, the windows, the windshield, and the paint.

This is one of the reasons I make sure to let you know all the necessary maintenance tasks you must do to keep your car healthy.

These parts give good evidence of whether a car has been well maintained.

If you didn’t take care of your tires, why would you care for your brakes, oil, or engine? Replacing things like wiper blades or headlights is easy and affordable.

This is an easy turn-off for whoever wants to buy your car. It’s pretty awful.

Keep your car sparkling clean!

Another simple thing you must do before selling your car is to clean it thoroughly (in & out).

Wash the exterior (body of your car), clean the rims, and, even wax it.

As for inside the car, start by removing all of your possessions!

Your prospective buyer wants to picture herself in the car, she also wants to imagine herself already driving the car around as her own but your socks or belt is hanging around making that impossible.

The Next thing is, clean out all the ancient stains from the cupholder 🥤 vacuum out all the sands in the car, if necessary, shampoo the carpets, and make the dashboard shiny.

You don’t need me to tell you how to wash your car right? But you probably aren’t so confident when it comes to costly repair decisions.

Fix Visible Damages

Online market stores for used cars offer many selections and most buyers won’t waste their time asking about a car with obvious signs of damage.

Take, for instance, if your car has a broken bumper or cracked windshield, you may struggle to sell it…

You see, most of these repairs aren’t expensive and won’t even take long.

But, for the trouble the prospective buyer would have to go through to repair the damages on their own after buying, they will expect a discount far greater than the cost of the repair.

And, as I have mentioned above, if the outer look (appearance) of your car is awful, prospective buyers will wonder what the inside will look like and they will assume it’s worse than the outside.

I’m sure you don’t want that to happen.

Then, if your car has serious body or glass damage, you should take it to a body repair shop or take it to a trusted mechanic to help you get a good car body repair technician.

This is what I do for my customers and it’s why they see me as a professional. Prince Automobile Clinic Our repair standards are second to none thanks to our excellent repair capability and highly skilled technicians. If you invest a little money in repairs, it will be much easier to sell your car.

Still, you must make sure you calculate your car’s value (as if it was not damaged) and the cost to repair beforehand.

Putting N50,000 into a car worth N300,000 doesn’t make much sense. But, performing an N100,000 repair for a car that is worth N3,000,000 makes more sense.

If you do your homework well, you can easily regain that N100,000. Especially if your car will generate more interest once it’s in good shape.

And at the same time, used car buyers won’t expect your 2010 Camry to be in perfect condition. Scratches and dings are the unavoidable cost of driving, especially when driving on Nigerian roads, potholes and mad drivers everywhere.

So, if your car is a bit older, future buyers won’t care much about a few scars on the car. In fact, you’ll have saved them the trouble of making the first mark. Lol!

Trading In or Selling

So, your decision to repair damages or not should depend on how you plan to sell your car…

should I trade?

If you’re selling it to someone that wants it for private use, it makes sense to pay for repairs that the next owner will likely expect. However, if you’re trading in your car at a dealership, I.e. you are selling your car to an auto dealer, there’s less reason to have it repaired before selling.

Most auto dealers have their own auto repair shop, or they partner with one and have access to repairs that are less costly. They can fix your cracked or broken bumper for less than you can, so keep that in mind while negotiating your car value!

In a nutshell

Deciding whether or not to repair the exterior and interior damages before selling your car can sometimes be a very difficult decision.

But, if you get an estimate for the damage, and an estimate for the value of your car, you can make a mindful decision. And, if you choose to repair with Prince Automobile Clinic, you’ll get first-class workmanship and exclusive repair service. Good luck selling!

How to extend your worthless car life by more than 15 years…

A car is a big investment. When you buy one, it’s natural to want to protect your purchase and make sure that it lasts as long as possible. The best way to do this is by taking care of the vehicle and doing routine maintenance on it regularly. However, there are some simple things that you can do which will extend the life of your car even further! In this blog post, we’ll discuss a few of the easy ways for you to do just that! then the full discussion will be in my podcast

-First things first, it is important to keep certain things checked in your car, mostly in the morning before driving to wherever you wish.

But most people believe it’s the job of their mechanics to do this which is fatly wrong!

You don’t need to be a mechanic to save your car from always getting damaged which will always cost you thousands of naira.

The most amazing part of this homework or task is that it’s very easy. You need strength to do them, both old and young can do them. I’ve been doing these things since I was a little boy, thanks to my father.

He would ask me to wash his car every morning and make sure I carry out these easy operations. Though I always thought he was too harsh and maybe his discipline on me was too much but got to realize he was only grooming me to save myself from future frustration and loss.

This homework or task I’ve been doing for the past decade to date is what I am going to share with you today.

I told you it’s not something we can discuss in my WhatsApp status, it’s something that can only be discussed in my blog or podcast. which is what we are diving into right now.

The easiest homework or task to extend the life of your car like professional consists of;

Check your radiator water level in the morning:

It is compulsory that you check your car’s radiator water level every morning. This is something some people know but still ignore and believe their mechanic should be the one to check it for them.

Well, it’s true that your mechanic should do this but do you expect him to come to your house every day or sleep in your house so that he can be checking your radiator every day? The only job he has here is for him to educate you, and let you know that there are things you should always do to keep you safe and save your money every time. I do this all my life, won’t say I took after my father because he’s also a mechanic. No! I do this because I know it’s the right thing to do. So I hope you do the same too.

I’ve seen several scenes where motorists fight their mechanic for some very weird issues their car develops. I laugh at both of them and sometimes I just pity them both… And why do i laugh or pity them every time? It’s because neither of
them knows what I’m telling you now

Yes, he didn’t tell you this and he probably even doesn’t know he’s supposed to tell you. See, it may not be funny but I find it funny.

So, listen- I won’t say you should fight your mechanic after I let you know this simple homework are. I have a few on my list but there is still more though. But just digest these ones for now, till another day when you’ll go deeper. it’s a deep topic. I can’t type it all that’s why I decided to launch a podcast channel so you can get more insights about what I tell you guys.

You can’t imagine waking up in the morning and don’t brush, you don’t eat, take a bath or even use the drugs you are supposed to use in the morning. Then you expect your health not to be at risk it’s the same with your car. Your car is at high risk
of having its engine knock or more.

that’s why you need to do this homework to save your ass.

The second homework on the list is ;

Check engine oil level

This is one here is the craziest part that causes trouble a lot between mechanics and their customers, and you could be in those peoples shoes if you don’t do the necessary, keep waiting for your mechanic to come and check your engine oil level for you every day, then when anything happens to your engine, grab the mechanic by the neck to explain why it happened. Ah ah ah ah ah!!!

Listen, not checking your engine oil level regularly is almost the same thing as driving a dying car… Come on, just imagine how frustrated you will be when you’re driving to a serious event then your car breaks down. on the road. Then after the diagnosis of the mechanic, they find out your engine has knocked. So will you fight your mechanic and blame him for your knocked engine?

Now, you see why you should check your engine oil every morning. It’s not for anyone’s sake but for yours, except you like spending and wasting your time roaming around the mechanic workshop.

I won’t talk too much, so you won’t say I’m supporting mechanics because I’m also a mechanic. Whatever!

The third homework;

Check your break fluids (break oil level)

If you intend to live long and not die very soon, then you don’t want to forget to check your brake fluid level every goddamn morning!

Sorry, if I’m rude but I just can’t help myself. Your life is also important to me., see, apart from the fact that you could die when there is a shortage of brake fluid in your car, you could end up running someone over and kill them, you might go to jail, you could even. Get crippled, which can sometimes be worse than death. I’m not trying to scare you. Just telling what you should know. Anyway, let’s go to the next one…

Which is the fourth one right?

Check your tire pressure:

Won’t talk much about this but your tires should be ignored just because they are called tires or because they look like they don’t need any attention doesn’t mean you can’t get killed by them. But it’s not the tire’s fault that they are bad, it’s your fault for not being observant to have detected them.

Let’s just go to the next one, I don’t have much time.

The Fifth one is the last for today, which is also important. And this one keeps your car looking clean and new., that is;

Wash and wax your car:

I’m sure after hearing this, you might want to wash your car every day. Though I may not recommend everyday wash for your car my dad and I wash his car every blessed day.

Now, why do you need to do a regular car wash for your car? It’s not just because you need to keep it clean. No! That’s not why. Do you know that washing your car regularly maintains the paint and beauty of the car? I’m not even talking based on what I heard from someone or checked on Google. All I blog about and post about on my WhatsApp status are not all from research, they are from pure experiences that I have had.

I don’t like talking about facts that I’m not sure of or haven’t experimented with yet because it could be false, and I’ll be misleading you by doing so.

Washing my dad’s car for years made me realize that. Even though it’s true according to research. But I’m also confirming it by my experiment, I’m a practical guy.

And for the wax, waxing your car helps remove small scratches from your car paint that is not deep yet. So, washing helps keep the paint shiny and Clean while waxing does both shining and keeping scratches away.

And that will be all for today’s episode. Next Saturday, I will be
